What's been the most rewarding project you've worked on as a Boeing intern?
I worked on the Tool Services Project, which uses Reinforcement Learning to advise the tooling team when and how much of an item to purchase in order to prevent stock-outs and overstock in the warehouse and on the factory floor. I also worked on Project Maya, a speech assistant that allows Maintenance Technicians on the factory floor to clock in jobs more easily and accurately using voice and facial recognition.
How will your internship experience at Boeing influence your future career?
My internships at Boeing have allowed me to grow my collaboration and innovation skills.
What have you learned as an intern that you wouldn’t learn from your coursework?
As an intern, I’m applying real Machine Learning techniques to a production environment with production constraints, while collaborating with various different entities. That’s something I could never have imagined doing in an academic/research environment. The benefit of Boeing's positive work culture and innovation made this a thrilling work environment.
What's something you wish you knew before you started your internship?
I think it’s integral to understand that regardless of your department at Boeing, the products greatly affect the experience. Working in an unconventional work environment (one where aircraft and rockets are being built outside the window) is greatly inspiring. It’s a feeling that truly cannot be explained in words.
What inspires you about Boeing's mission and the work we do?
I’ve been fascinated by planes, and particularly with Boeing, since I was 10. Boeing's commitment to pushing innovation, a trend it has now sustained for over 100 years while maintaining its commitment to quality, safety and its employees, is extraordinary. The work we do here affects billions of people. I’m inspired every day to play even a small part in this.
