Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Lead Controls Engineer to perform design, analysis, modeling, and testing of high performance controls for precision electro-optical systems. The engineer would work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the development of both directed energy and electro-optical systems. Boeing LEOS develops systems for a variety of customers and platforms.
The ideal candidate would have experience in controls design (classical and modern) and hands on hardware/system integration for opto-mechanical systems which require precision pointing control in dynamic environments. This includes, but is not limited to, gimbaled optical systems, high bandwidth steering mirror control, sensor modeling and characterization, image stabilization, and closed loop target tracking.
Develops, documents and maintains architectures, requirements, analysis for control systems, primarily for electro-mechanical and electro-optical hardware
Works with a multi-disciplinary team to implement and test control systems
Models control systems as part of larger system simulation
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret or Q Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
7+ years in the design, analysis, and testing of high bandwidth electro-mechanical or electro-optical control systems
3+ years of experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
10+ years in the design, analysis, and testing of high bandwidth electro-mechanical or electro-optical control systems
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
