Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is seeking motivated and dedicated System Safety Engineers to join our team. This role can be based out of any of the following locations: Berkeley, MO; Saint Charles, MO; Huntsville, AL; Mesa, AZ; El Segundo, CA; Titusville, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Philadelphia, PA; Houston, TX
Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Experienced, Lead and Senior Level System Safety Engineers.
The selected candidate will be a core member of a fast-paced, productive, close-knit and geographically diverse safety function. System Safety Engineers are integral to the entire product lifecycle to identify, analyze mitigate and verify the safety hazard risk of our Boeing products. This includes collaboration with all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, requirements definition, and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their fielded environments.
Boeing Defense Space & Security has an expansive portfolio of products across maritime, land, air and space domains. Major platforms include F-15 and F/A-18 fighter jets, T-7A trainer, AH-64 Apache, V-22 Osprey and CH-47 Chinook rotorcraft, autonomous platforms such as the MQ-25 aerial refueling drone and Orca submarine, missiles & weapons systems, manned spacecraft and satellites, and proprietary programs.
Evaluate customer specifications and regulations, and assess the design to develop safety requirements, constraints, and operating limits
Develop System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), as required
Perform a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, such as the Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Software Safety Hazard Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
Review engineering design specifications, test and manufacturing operations, change proposals, anomaly reports, and deviation/waiver requests for potential safety impacts
Interface with government customer and program subject matter experts
Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
Develop proposals, work statements, and specifications affecting system safety engineering scope and budget
Deliver oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
Demonstrate the ability to communicate well and work within a team environment with a focus on first time quality
Strong proficiency in default Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will have the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule, performing work weekly onsite and remotely. Please note that the hybrid work schedule is subject to program/business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
3 or more years of Systems Safety, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Design experience
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
10 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Active US Secret Clearance or higher
Experience with Space, NASA, and/or Department of Defense (DoD) team projects such as; trade studies, design work, or safety analysis
Typical Education & Experience:
Experienced (Level 3)
Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Lead (Level 4)
Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Senior (Level 5)
Bachelor's degree typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for experienced level: 90,000 – 141,450
Summary pay range for lead level: 111,350 – 173,650
