Job Description

This Commercial Manager role sits within the BDUK Boeing Information Services (BIS) Business Unit. BIS is responsible for the execution of two major Information Services contracts with our MoD and Staffordshire Police customers. The BIS Commercial Team also actively supports business development campaigns for IS opportunities

To enhance business partnering support provided by the BDUK Commercial function with the increasing demands of a successfully growing business across the entire business landscape, we have taken this opportunity to create a dedicated Commercial Manager role for the BIS business unit. This role recognises the imperative for dedicated contractual and business support to the BIS programme teams to continue to successfully execute current contracts and effectively pursue new business opportunities in line with BDUK strategy

The BIS Commercial Manager role is a member of BDUK Finance, working within the Commercial Function, reporting to the BDUK Commercial Director.

As manager of the BIS Commercial Team, provides functional and SME business partnering to on-contract Programmes and new business opportunities in a fast-paced and challenging environment. This role will line-manage a commercial team consisting of 5 full-time staff and is the accountable Commercial role to the Programme Managers and customers

Working in partnership with other Commercial and Finance managers this role offers challenging and diverse opportunities around leadership, developing functional excellence, development of its people and providing high quality commercial & business support to Programme teams

In discharging these responsibilities the successful candidate will efficiently and effectively:

  • manage, deploy and develop the staff accordingly
  • lead a commercial team who provide a range of business support activities and work in partnership with Programme leads to ensure fully functioning resources are provided for the commercial tasks in hand, both supporting core contract activity, bidding for Over and Above tasks to contracts and supporting new business campaigns
  • be involved, directly or in an oversight capacity, in all strategic and complex activities & issues as the programme teams & staff require
  • develop effective working relationships with all key stakeholders, particularly programme managers, senior managers across the business and senior customer personnel
  • work effectively with the Commercial Director and other Finance managers and staff to implement initiatives and synergies to realise productivity improvement opportunities
  • work with the Programmes, the larger Finance family and other Functions to plan demand forecasts, acquire resources and execute plans efficiently and effectively
  • work closely with the Finance Manager to design and execute decisions and actions that deliver both company financial performance and customer satisfaction
  • understand and implement BDUK strategy in making decisions and shaping work statements and assigning duties to staff
  • undertake peer reviews and provide authorisations for the release of commercial artefacts
  • lead on staff engagement survey impacts and actions
  • develop in conjunction with Programme Commercial Leads high-performing team environments

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/ Business or Engineering related degree

• significant Commercial / Contracts experience

• demonstrated ability to mentor/ train and lead others

• demonstrable leadership and management qualities

• a high degree of client focus and customer relationship management skills

• strong business acumen

• experience working in contract execution and bid environments
