Job Description

The Boeing Company is seeking a Mid-Level Human Factors & User Experience Engineer (Level 3) to analyze and define product and user interface designs through product lifecycle phases at our El Segundo, CA or Colorado Springs, CO facilities.


Position Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of human capabilities and constraints (e.g., physiology, cognition, perception, ergonomics, and anthropometry) and knowledge of the user and their environments (e.g., flight operators, maintainers, space and hazardous environments) to assist in the development, test and evaluation of safe and effective user interfaces.
  • Utilize human engineering tools and methods (e.g., task and workload analysis, digital human modeling, simulation, and prototyping, usability evaluation, statistical and human error analysis).
  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to perform analyses, design, development and verification of balanced system solutions.
  • Perform rapid prototyping of user interfaces & experiences (e.g., wireframes, mockups, and designs)
  • Evaluate customer and operational needs to define system performance requirements (eg; MIL-STD-1472), integrate technical parameters and ensure compatibility with physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Assist with analyses for system safety, reliability, and other specialty engineering functions to ensure mission success
  • Identify human engineering design issues and develops solutions as a user advocate to ensure human engineering requirements are met by the design.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.


Basic (Required) Qualifications

  • Experience working in a diverse team environment.
  • One or more years of experience in Human Factors, Ergonomics, User Experience, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in ergonomics, human factors or one of the behavioral, life, or social sciences (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, physiology, human biology).  Degrees may also be in engineering, computer science, physics or mathematics.

Preferred (Desired) Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in Human Factors, Ergonomics, User Experience, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics or similar industry.
  • Experience with human-machine interface design.
  • Experience decomposing and applying MIL-STD-1472 Human Engineering requirements.
  • Experience applying User Centered Design principles to software.
  • Experience with human modeling such as Micro Saint.
  • Experience working in agile development environment.
  • Experience manipulating systems models in systems engineering tools (Rhapsody, Cameo).

Typical Education/Experience

Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
