Job Description

The Advanced Ground Systems (AGS) program area in Colorado Springs is growing and seeks a senior software architect to lead the design for Boeing’s Modeling and Simulation architecture on our nation’s next generation of Space ground systems. This position is for the self-driven person who enjoys being a leader and innovator; offering the opportunity to work directly with customers in defining the Modeling and Simulation framework to support the future of wargaming, training, exercises, and operational system performance and behavior.  The successful candidate combines a passion for Modeling and Simulation system design with a proven track record for designing and implementing open framework architectures. This is a key leadership position which supports several Boeing programs and our partners who will build on top of the modeling and simulation framework developing new capabilities.


Boeing is developing state of the art Space C2 systems leveraging cutting edge technology in an agile environment with multiple long term projects needing support. We seek a candidate having understanding of the space mission domain including launch vehicles, satellite systems, mission and vehicle command & control (C2), rendezvous proximity operations (RPO), RF domain, specialized mission payloads, system integration, and interoperability.
The successful candidate will work to create a common technical vision, make high-level design choices and develop software implementation guidelines to ensure that the software developed will meet functional requirements and design constraints. The position requires a wide range of technical skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders (customer, Boeing, partners) to ensure the best value is delivered.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Together with the AGS Chief Technology Officer and Chief Engineer, will develop the frameworks, standards, policies, principles, and procedures that guide technology decisions and maximize reuse of Modeling and Simulation technology.
  • Work closely with our software product development team to help develop cutting edge Modeling and simulation solutions; determine functional and non-functional requirements of future project needs and guide strategic investments in tools to support new requirements.
  • Define all aspects of modeling and simulation development from appropriate technology and workflow to software architecture and implementation; clearly communicate all concepts and guidelines to development team.
  • Serves as evangelist for modeling and simulation infrastructure approach, interfacing with both internal and external customers. Ensures most important requirements are understood.
  • Prior experience in developing software framework architectures in a complex system is critical to success in this role.

The successful candidate will have experience in the following:

  • Industry modeling and simulation protocols and standards such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High-Level Architecture (HLA)
  • Industry space modeling and simulation applications such as AFSIM, SEAS, or similar
  • Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) modeling and simulation methods

Qualifications

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

  • Candidate must be willing to undergo an intensive background investigation to obtain a Special Access Program clearance

  • Must possess a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree

  • Must have software development leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • A TS/SCI Clearance is preferred for this position but not required

Typical Education/Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
