Job Description

This position is for a Senior (level 5) Software Engineer for the Mission Framework and Analytics (MF/A) Spacecraft Control Element (SCE) organization, supporting proprietary ground system development programs. The position can be located in El Segundo or Seal Beach, California.


The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity in the Mission Frameworks and Analytics group of Space & Missile Systems. The Mission Frameworks and Analytics group develops advanced imaging and geospatial processing technologies for transition into operational settings. The successful candidate will enjoy continuously learning new technologies, applying innovation to tackle the most difficult of technical challenges, and collaborating with a multi-discipline team.


Primary job duties:


• Lead the development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.

• Develop and maintain code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system.

• Lead development of test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.

• Support software project management and software supplier management functions.

• Select, tailor and deploy processes and tools; establish metrics.

• Perform software research and trade studies.

Typical Education/Experience: Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Basic Qualifications (required):

• Experience required in Python, Java and C/C++ software development experience in a Linux/Unix environment.

• Experience with the development of computer software, integration, and testing.

• Experience with software architecture principles, requirements and interfaces, and software systems engineering experience.

• This position requires successful completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building applications with AWS Elastic MapReduce, Apache Spark, YARN and/or Mesos.

• Experience with Agile/Scrum software development.
