Job Description

The Boeing Company is seeking a senior, highly skilled, and motivated Satellite Platform Integrated Product Team (IPT) to be part of our In-Space Vehicles Engineering team.  In this role, you will lead a talented cross-discipline team in the development, design, and delivery of advanced satellite platform systems that serve critical missions for our US and international customers. This position provides critical satellite program leadership with design responsibilities that include delivering on all cost and schedule program commitments on platform designs, technical performance/management of platform products through delivery, and managing risk and opportunities. This Sr. leader is also accountable for the design of the space vehicle platform. This position is located in El Segundo, CA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides design leadership and project engineering management for satellite platforms. IPT accountabilities include cost, technical, schedule, and risk management.
  • Participates in system level trades to ensure the platform design meets all physical, mechanical and environmental requirements while accommodating the required payload, power, propulsion, thermal, communications and attitude control system requirements.
  • Ensures that the platform design meets internal and external production and manufacturing requirements using DFMAT principles.
  • Leads the development of qualification and acceptance level test plans to verify system designs meet requirements and specifications.
  • Develops manufacturing and test plans to support spacecraft integration, transportation and launch.
  • Supports and approves manufacturing and integration plan, Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and Virtual Manufacturing (VM) simulation reviews.
  • Supports and approves of design reviews, test plans and procedures, critical planning procedures.
  • Integrates relevant platform design and design-integration lessons learned from previous programs.
  • Provides support for Business Development efforts for Platform System Designs activities.
  • Will have primary responsibility authority accountability (RAA) for program execution, program battle rhythm and project engineering including earned value, technical performance metrics reporting, cost account management, and communications/briefing to executive leadership - highlighting and project managing program cost, schedule, risk/mitigation, and technical performance while providing timely affordable, lean, root cause/corrective action-based solutions.
  • Will be a skilled engineering project manager with career-experience and knowledge in leading Non-Recurring engineering (NRE) design and efforts, project baseline development, resource loading, engineering project breakdown structure (WBS/PBS) activities and program-level metrics.
  • Ensures preparation of the master plan and schedule for platform system designs, such as Integrated Master Plan and Integrated Master Schedule [IMP/IMS], and First Article Plan, through coordination and conflict resolution with other Boeing teams, functions, and organizations, as well as customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and communicates responsibility authority accountability (RAA) to define team members' roles and responsibilities for platform design, design-integration, and support for project engineering activities.
  • Lead interface for The Boeing Company, working with supplier, customer and end-user communities.

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

 

 

Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor's and 20 or more years' experience, Master's with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 
 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in Program Management or IPT Leadership including cost, schedule, technical and risk management.
  • Full time aerospace industry experience within Mechanical, Structural, Platforms and Payloads, Design, Analysis, or Production Liaison engineering.
 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Ideal candidate will have extensive experience with satellite platform subsystems, and/or payload subsystem including systems engineering, space vehicle design, mechanical systems engineering, space/primary core structures, deployable structures, propulsion engineering, power subsystem, mechanisms and other platform related subsystems.
  • Experience with the platform subsystem lifecycle: design, analysis, manufacturing, procurements, and assembly, integration, and test.
  • Prefer candidate to have additional knowledge and experience with structural dynamics, thermal analysis, thermal (multi-layer insulation) blanket, tooling, deployable structures, payload subsystems, antenna subsystems, harness and payload layout.
  • An Active SSBI clearance is preferred pre-start.
