Job Description

Boeing Research & Technology is looking for a highly motivated, experienced first line manager to lead the Puget Sound Teardown & Reverse Engineering Lab teams. 


The Teardown and Reverse Engineering Labs are intended to provide a multitude of opportunities to lower the cost of airplane components and subsystems, simplify designs, or take advantage of newer technologies or manufacturing methods.  As candidate products are identified, the products will be physically or virtually broken down into their respective pre-manufactured/pre-assembled set of components.  Using knowledge, experience, as well as sophisticated tools, cost analyses, value analysis and reverse engineering product analyses will be performed on a common set of parts considering their physical characteristics, manufacturing methods, material makeup, etc.  The results will generate a number of business cases and opportunities for cost effective improvement to our products. 


As a first line leader of the Puget Sound Teardown and Reverse Engineering Labs and as a member of the Teardown Lab Leadership Team you will be required to:

• Work with managers from the other TDL Labs to define and execute the labs strategy
• Partner with BCA, BGS and BDS on annual lab statement of work definition including comparative parts from our competition and outside industry
• Manage annual BR&T staffing and budgets according to the IRAD planning cycle
• Partner with PS supplier management, manufacturing and design engineering to use various lab analysis in their cost reduction strategies
• Develop innovative, new ways to utilize historical teardown data and the lab capabilities to reduce cost or increase product value
• Challenge cultural norms in an inspiring way
• Work across global labs to develop & ensure consistent deployment of lab tools, processes and standards
• Lead the team in executing daily lab SOW while leveraging One Boeing lab resources across the globe in order to accomplish work in an efficient, high quality manner
• Ensure lab output product quality is to the highest standards
• Monitor team performance and exercise lean practices to improve lab efficiency
• Ensure a safe working environment for the team by embracing Boeing’s safety guiding principles
• Manage and develop a diverse, talented team by providing them both challenging work statement and career guidance and challenging growth opportunities
• Expand the culture of affordability, design simplicity, re-use and comparative design insights across the lab customer base

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.


This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.


Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing projects and/or teams.
  • 3+ years of experience collaborating with cross-functional teams working on major development programs.
  • 1+ years of experience working with or presenting to executive leaders.
  • Experience managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience with fabrication and/or assembly of mechanical or electrical systems utilizing production industry standards.

Preferred Skills and Education:

  • Experience working directly with or on cost reduction initiatives.
  • Experience working with procurement in the acquisition of supplier produce parts.
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
