Boeing Production Engineering (PE), an organization of over 4,000 employees, supports all aspects of Boeing Commercial Airplanes from product conception to customer support. PE designs, deploys, operates and maintains the production system that enables the build of the airplanes for The Boeing Company.

PE is the hub of all activity within Boeing as we coordinate with everyone who has anything to do with the airplane including design, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers. We also establish common processes, standards and procedures that the company uses to comply with government, regulatory and competitive obligations.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes is recruiting Equipment & Tool Designers to support all locations and programs within the Puget Sound area, such as 777X, 787, 747, 767, 737,Tanker programs and more. In addition, we have several automation / robotics positions available, which support complex and highly automated production system equipment.  Positions may include providing creative solutions for new equipment, troubleshooting, and providing solutions for existing automated systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Participates in basic to moderately complex equipment and tooling concept reviews.
  • Supports the investigation and development of equipment and tooling concepts and specifications (e.g., trade studies, prototypes, sketches, models, simulations, requirements).
  • Investigates moderately complex design solutions, collects and incorporates design requirements, identifies long lead time material needs and sources, creates and revises drawings, models, equipment and tool usage instructions to support the build plan.
  • Prepares moderately complex models, drawings and construction documents. Identifies material needs and sources.
  • Creates specifications and purchase requests for the design and/or creation of equipment and tooling.
  • Develops equipment and tool usage instructions.
  • Self-checks designs and datasets for accuracy, key performance indicators and compliance to standards and regulatory requirements including ergonomics and safety.
  • Creates and maintains configuration of documents for equipment and tooling of moderate complexity.
  • Develops and documents detailed equipment and tooling inspection instructions, and preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Performs the build, installation and discrepancy resolutions.
  • Updates instructions and/or requirements based on failure mode analyses conducted to resolve and/or reduce repetitive, systemic problems. Supports end user and maintenance training.
  • Establishes and validates spares requirements.
  • Provides technical support for engineering changes and discrepancies of moderate complexity (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests, trouble reports) by investigating manufacturing and test problems, researching and analyzing product data (e.g., drawings, parts standards, specifications) and coordinating with cross-functional groups to identify solutions.
  • Supports software and physical configuration management processes.
  • Researches and analyzes reliability and maintainability data.
  • Responds to maintenance/operator questions related to equipment and tooling.
  • Provides documented technical recommendations and solutions to resolve problems.
This requisition supports 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift positions and possible 1st shift with rotating 2nd shift support requirements. Candidate will be notified at the time of interview request the shift that they are being considered for.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • At least 1 year of experience with tool or mechanical design
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with CATIA V5 or similar CAD software
  • 1 or more years of experience with MS Office Applications
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • AA degree in a related discipline
  • Operational/ Tool Fabrication experience
  • Strong communication Skills
  • Project management knowledge
  • Ability to learn in a fast paced environment
Typical Education / Experience:
  • AA degree in related discipline and typically 1 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position is located in the Puget Sound area of Seattle, WA and may offer relocation assistance.
