Airspace Procedure Designer

Summary:


Provides full-performance technical support to airspace specialist in the design, documentation, tracking, charting, and delivery of instrument flight procedures.  Conducts data collection, research, and evaluation of airspace design and obstacle evaluation. Performs as an immediate technical resource to Airspace Specialists in the effective assessment and management of instrument flight procedures, as well as the delivery of related products/services to customers.
 
Essential Duties:

  • Researches, collects, compiles, and evaluates data on airports, terrain, obstacles, and existing procedures in the development, maintenance, and revision of terminal/en route instrument and visual flight procedures; accompanies specialist during on-site visits to collect data; processes and organizes GPS/GIS data.
  • Creates workspaces in formats for use in procedure design software; evaluates and validates automated calculations and associated data reports for technical accuracy utilizing multiple computer programs.
  • Performs technical review of data to ensure completeness and accuracy; prepares procedure design graphics (draft charts), applicable forms, and supporting information required for instrument procedure design.
  • Verifies the location of existing obstacles, spot elevations, and cultural elements using paper/electronic topographical, geographical, and survey charts/maps.
  • Inputs data and maintains spreadsheets and other records to track instrument flight procedure production, inventory, assigned work, and other items.
  • Compiles, prints, and binds reports, presentations, handouts, and supporting documents for customer deliverables, meetings, and/or conferences.
  • Purchases supplies and/or coordinates with vendors for products required for the production and publication of instrument flight procedures, feasibility studies, and other products.
  • Maintains publications library with required documents.
  • Performs administrative and additional duties, as well as other tasks, as assigned by Team Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.

Education/Experience:


  • Four-year degree in a related field of study and typically two or more years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education background in Airspace will be a great asset.
 
 
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Solid mathematical background.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Microstation or other CAD, GIS Software.
  • Very good communication skills in English.
  • Fast learning, self-driven.
  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Controller will be an asset.
  • Previous experience as a Fight Deck Crew member, pilot or a co-pilot will be considered as an advantage.
  • Solves routine problems of limited scope and complexity by following established practices, processes and procedures.
  • Receives general supervision with basic instructions for routine work and detailed instructions for new lines of work or special assignments. Performs routine or standardized work, choosing from a variety of well-established options. Work is reviewed for soundness and overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Interacts primarily with organization personnel and customers to obtain or provide information requiring some explanation or interpretation.
