Job Description

Boeing's Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) is a business unit within Boeing Defense, Space and Security that provides creative solutions to undersea systems problems.  ATP is the Boeing center of excellence in undersea systems engineering, undersea structures, Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) guidance/navigation, user interface and embedded software development for command & control.  ATP performs a full range of systems integration and testing and is headquartered in Herndon, VA.

ATP is seeking a System Engineer to be located in Herndon to support efforts to define notional concepts and systems engineering solutions to customer requirements to advanced communication, signal processing systems and other systems.  This may include:

  • Systems Requirements development, management, and verification, System Performance modeling, analysis, Algorithm development and reporting, System Test planning, execution, and reporting as well as other Systems Engineering functions as required to support system development and fielding. 
  • Supports work to test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Candidate will plan, design, develop and verify lifecycle balanced system solutions for a highly complex hardware/software system; allocate performance budgets and analyze and report on test data.
  • The candidate will support and evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Lead analyses and design activities to optimize total system architecture. 
  • Occasional travel to customer and teammate locations is required.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.


Degree and typical experience: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written; technical leadership skills a must. 
  • Experience in leading and conducting mathematical analysis, modeling and simulation efforts to support product development is desired; prior systems engineering experience is required. 
  • Experience in working with customers to develop technical roadmaps and business strategies is desired. 
  • Experience in development of algorithms as part of a system definition is highly desired.
