Our The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Space and Launch Division is seeking an Experienced Systems Engineer (Level 3) to join our team in Herndon, VA. This program is dynamic and exciting, providing the opportunity to work within and learn a broad range of engineering disciplines. Our Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
Position Overview:
The Experienced Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. This unique role requires and understanding of engineering processes and the ability to communicate engineering requirements into a contractually sound technical baseline. The individual must be enthusiastic and hands on in their approach and possess excellent organizational, leadership and written and verbal communication skills. The individual must be able to work in a team environment and collaborate with several types of engineering skills to lead and facilitate the training and certification process for a diverse set of program teams. This position is a day shift position with on-call and infrequent shift work. Applicable and appropriate educational/certification credentials from an accredited institution and/or equivalent experience is required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Direct daily interface with customers and leaders, requiring evaluation of customer needs.
Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Collaborate across multiple disciplines to achieve critical project milestones.
Analysis of risks, issues, and opportunities.
Analysis of impacts to operational teams.
Testing and validation to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.
Certify and cross train in other program areas as required.
Mentoring and daily task management for systems engineering team.
Process engineering and continuous improvement.
Alignment of program training and certification activities with critical milestones.

Analysis of inter-dependencies of product deliveries and the associated risks, issues, and opportunities of their integration.
Work Authorization:
This position requires an active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with CI Poly. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.). This position is contingent on clearance verification and customer concurrence.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
3 years or more of experience in systems engineering
Willing to perform some call-in responsibilities during off hours and perform weekend work to include occasional 24/7 rotating shift.
Fluent in the basic use of Microsoft (MS) Office Tools.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5 years or more of experience in aerospace engineering.
Experience contributing to system engineering projects.
Experience tracing requirements to incorporate into engineering design.
Experience using web-based tools such as MS SharePoint.
Experience with designing, developing, integrating and maintaining new software functionality.
Experience with computer tools and other technologies using test plans and procedures to verify requirements.
Experience across a breadth of disciplines including hardware, software, systems and test.
Experience training, coaching and mentoring teammates.
Experience with the aerospace industry and its products.
Knowledge of Web-based tools such as SharePoint.
Knowledge of industry standards for operational certification and training.
Knowledge of systems engineering disciplines and a willingness to apply those skills in a fast-paced learning environment.
Knowledge of the Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) process or other engineering problem resolution/solution process.
Knowledge of basic systems engineering principles used to solve engineering problems and also an understanding of standard problem-solution methodologies and tools.
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Virginia Summary pay range: Min: $104,550 - Max: $141,450
