Job Description

Boeing's Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) is a business unit within Boeing Defense, Space and Security that provides creative solutions to undersea systems problems.  ATP is the Boeing center of excellence in undersea systems engineering, undersea structures, Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) guidance/navigation, user interface and embedded software development for command & control.  ATP performs a full range of systems integration and testing and is headquartered in Huntington Beach, CA.

ATP is looking for a Systems Engineering Analyst to compile complex technical data, perform research and analysis in the area of sonar systems. The successful applicant must have:

•Experience with active sonar (such as active sonobuoys, forward looking sonar, side looking sonar and synthetic aperture sonar) and passive sonar (such as passive sonobuoys and towed hydrophone arrays)
•Experience with sonar performance prediction and sonar algorithm development, modeling and integration

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Sonar system selection for Boeing’s unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs)

  • Analyze the performance of existing sonar systems for a given application using simulation tools (such as PC SWAT and CASS/GRAB)
  • Support the selection of the appropriate system
  • Support technical interface with sonar suppliers

Sonar algorithm development

  • Assess the performance of sonar processing algorithms in terms of a set of system requirements
  • Model the algorithms in a simulation environment (such as Matlab®)
  • Provide a technical definition of these algorithms to the systems and software engineering teams  
  • Maintain technical liaison through the process of software verification and validation

At-sea testing

  • Develop and support at-sea tests to verify that the required sonar capability can be achieved
  • Provide on-site test support
  • Analyze the data collected during the tests and prepare test reports

Presentations

  • Develop presentation materials
  • Give presentations internally and to customer organizations

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

 

Typical Education & Experience:

 Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 

Basic Skills:

  • Experience with active sonar (such as active sonobuoys, forward looking sonar, side looking sonar and synthetic aperture sonar) and passive sonar (such as passive sonobuoys and towed hydrophone arrays)
  • Experience with sonar performance prediction and sonar algorithm development, modeling and integration
