Job Description

Boeing Research and Technology is seeking an innovative technical leader to join our Communications and Sensing Technology organization and advance our rapidly expanding business in radio frequency (RF) electronics and communications and sensing technology. Specifically, we are developing technology for long range, high bandwidth communications and sensing systems (e.g. phased array antennas) for a wide variety of military and commercial aerospace platforms, as well as short range (e.g. internet-of-things) technologies for use on board the platforms and in our factories.

This is a mid-level engineering position, requiring advanced level knowledge and skills in state of the art RF and microwave technology and system development. Specifically targeted technical skills include: digital signals processing for communications and/or sensing applications, antenna design, wireless communications and sensing, analog/digital circuit design, printed circuit board design, and electromagnetic theory.

The position requires working independently and collaboratively in a fast paced research and development environment, as well as providing technical expertise and support to exiting full scale development and production programs.


Job Responsibilities:  

  • Performs communication systems engineering and development of signal processing architectures
  • Develop signal processing algorithms for communication and sensing systems
  • Implement algorithms using field-programmable gate arrays and validate the solutions to ensure the implementations meet operational and functional requirements
  • Develop and validate requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare, and other electromagnetic systems and subsystems
  • Lead the development and validation of electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems and their components
  • Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component and interconnects performance and to optimize design around established requirements
  • Lead project management efforts by preparing project objectives, schedules, deliverables, and providing status to leadership
  • Business development support by identifying opportunities and developing win strategies

Typical Education/Experience:


Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.


Required Qualifications:


  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience working with digital signal processing (DSP) systems
  • Experience in digital design using hardware description languages (System Verilog, Verilog, VHDL)
  • 3+ years of experience working with signal processing algorithm development


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous hardware design/development experience using either 3D CAD software, PCB layout tools, Mentor Graphics, Ansys HFSS, Micorwave office, and /or drawing/model based definitions is highly desirable
  • Previous experience with RF system development, including not but limited to communication systems and RF sensing systems
  • Previous experience in Electronic System Design, specifically in the fields of RF electronics, RF/Microwave test, and phased array electronics
  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred
  • Experience with avionics component development is also desirable
