Job Description

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Network Designer to join the AIT Comp Technical Support group that develops, installs, integrates, operates and maintains LAN and WAN architectures to address Program communications requirements.

The network designer will work closely with customers, network service providers, systems administrators, Program security, and information assurance engineers to develop and implement effective LAN and WAN solutions. Will act as the subject matter expert on secure network strategies and approaches. The network designer is responsible for exploring efficiency improvements for the program’s existing network systems as well as for the research of new and often complex technologies for integration into the program’s technical architecture and communication framework. This position can be located in Huntington Beach, CA, Dallas, TX, or Washington DC.

 
The roles and responsibilities of the network designer will include:
  • Work on multiple projects gathering requirements from stakeholders
  • Serve as program subject matter expert on LAN and WAN networking architectures and designs
  • Conduct research on emerging network technologies and assess and present feasibility of integrating these new technologies into the program’s communications networks
  • Develop and document networking architectures and designs
  • Create and review risk assessments including recommendations for risk remediation
  • Work with the Program's supplier integration team to develop and coordinate COTS hardware and software purchases
  • Monitor Program networks, identify issues, work with remote site POCs, network service provider representatives to resolve issues and implement networking system configuration upgrades and enhancements to optimize performance
  • Develop, collect, track, analyze and report networking and communications metrics
  • Work in a matrixed organization promoting advancement of multiple concurrent networking projects
  • Work with program security and information assurance engineering to ensure networking security certification requirements are defined and implemented
  • Support proposal development including solution development, pricing and coordination activities in support of the overall proposal process
  • Produce documentation for and present at customer reviews
  • Provide regular oral and written communication on status and issues to stakeholders

Qualifications

This position requires an active Current Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

 
Must have a Final DoD Top Secret or other clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed or updated within the past five years.
 

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Must have experience developing and implementing secure LAN and WAN solutions
  • Must have experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Government digital communications privacy devices
 

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • 7 – 10 years of network design, implementation, and integration experience
  • 7 – 10 years of network design, programming, implementation, and integration experience including 4 years of demonstrated advanced major design initiatives
  • Cisco certifications either active, or previously held: CCNP / CCDP
  • Comptia Security Plus certification
  • Self-starter, comfortable working under limited supervision
  • Leadership capabilities and experience
  • Ability to direct and motivate team members
  • Experience with network management and monitoring tools
 

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's 10 or more years' experience, Master's with 8 or more years' experience or PhD with 5 or more years' experience
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or any other technical field of study.
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
