Job Description

 

A Principal RF Communication Systems Engineer is needed for several Phantom Works programs at the Huntington Beach and El Segundo locations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and validates requirements for unique communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components. Develops and validates electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.
  • Develops architectures to integrate multiple systems into higher level systems and platforms.
  • Leads development of trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around complex requirements.
  • Develops new and improved modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Leads development and execution of critical tests to validate performance of designs to requirements.
  • Manages appropriate aspects of critical supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Provides support to products throughout their lifecycle by providing guidance and support to resolve complex issues.
  • Supports project management by providing coordinating development of work statement, budget, schedule and other required inputs and conducting appropriate reviews.
  • Creates new tools to improve management of projects.
  • Leads development of major sections of large-scale proposals to support development of new business.
  • Works under consultative direction.

Qualifications

Typical Education & Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • 10 or more years working with RF Communication systems
  • 5 or more years experience processing development tools including Matlab and Simulink.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 14+ years of experience designing and implementing advanced wireless communication systems and waveforms.
  • Deep understanding of the communications theory backed by relevant education and/or specialization training.
  • Familiarity with detailed RF link budgeting including usage of modern link-budgeting tools and channel models.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, prototyping and testing modern RF front-ends ranging from VHF to mmWave – including modern apertures, up/down conversion, filtering, amplification and signal conditioning.
  • Demonstrated experience designing signal processing algorithms of modern communication waveforms including advanced signal processing techniques (eg, parasitic signal cancelation, MIMO processing, diversity combining).
  • Hand-on system integration, prototyping, and troubleshooting skills – including lab and field activities.
  • Familiarity with the DoD system engineering processes, practices, product development and acquisition lifecycle.
  • Proven successful proposal writing skills.
  • Understanding design specifics of modern military waveforms is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with AJ, LPI/LPD and SIGINT aspects of the waveform design is a plus.
  • Experience implementing waveforms on the modern hardware including FPGAs, DSPs, SoCs and RFoCs is a plus.
  • Ability to prototype software using modern algorithmic and scripting languages (C, C++, Python) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with design principles of modern wireless datalink and networking layers is a plus.
