Job Description


  • GMD Software Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama.  The GMD System is the first and only operationally deployed missile defense program to defend the homeland against Long-range ballistic missile attacks. The system provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of inbound ICBMs through force of hit-to-kill technology.  As prime contractor, Boeing is designing, producing, integrating, testing and sustaining all GMD components.
  • The selected individual will perform GMD Hardware/Software Integration (H/SI) of embedded systems, operating systems, interfaces, and networks.


  • Evaluating Hardware in the Loop tools and systems.
  • Determining courses of action and innovative approaches to complex HWIL systems and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain code and integrates software components into a fully functional missile defense system.
  • Supports development of algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems using Java, C, C++, Python and FORTRAN.
  • Developing key relationships with the customer, analysis organizations, and potential external partners.

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):
  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience with software systems using Java, C, C++, Python and/or FORTRAN.
Assets (Preferred):
  • Experience developing analytical tools and performing numerical modeling of complex systems using MATLAB.
  • Demonstrated analytical and programming skills.
  • Experience defining and coding algorithms.
  • Experience/working knowledge of BMDS, GMD and EKV.
  • Demonstrated strong coordination, organization, teaming and, communication skills.
Preferred Education:
  • Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering or Physics Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • In addition to Bachelors of Science degree, advanced engineering degree or coursework in mathematics, physics and/or statistics desired.

Typical Education / Experience:
Level 3:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
