Job Description


  • GMD Systems Engineer Analyst in Huntsville, Alabama.  The GMD System is the first and only operationally deployed missile defense program to defend the homeland against Long-range ballistic missile attacks. The system provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of inbound ICBMs through force of hit-to-kill technology.  As prime contractor, Boeing is designing, producing, integrating, testing and sustaining all GMD components.
  • The selected individual will perform GMD systems analysis tasks associated with performance analysis, battle space analysis, defended area, capabilities and limitations, raid size, and discrimination algorithms.


  • Applying expertise in engineering/mathematics to support advanced modeling and simulations.
  • Evaluating and influencing emerging missile defense performance and designs.
  • Defining system analysis objectives and strategies.
  • Determining courses of action and innovative approaches to complex system performance analysis and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain code and integrates software components into a fully functional missile defense system.
  • Supports development of algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems using Java, C, C++, Python and/or FORTRAN.

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):

  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
  • This mid-level position has job responsibilities aligned to individuals with a degree and typical experience in engineering classification:  Bachelor's and 5 years’ experience, Master's with 3 years’ or more experience, or PhD with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • A technical background in statistical M&S, performing algorithm development and/or analysis.
  • Experience performing trade studies and analysis of alternatives.
  • Individual must possess excellent communication skills and is expected to interact frequently with customers and subject matter experts.
  • Experience with development of algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems using Java, C, C++, and/or Python or FORTRAN.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment. 

Assets (Preferred):

  • A good understanding of GMD system performance and how GMD works from the perspective of sensors, detection/tracking, ground systems, booster, kill vehicle, and threats.
  • Experience analyzing complicated physics problems using medium- and high-fidelity parametric models/simulations utilizing Monte Carlo techniques to provide insight into performance capabilities of real-world weapon systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of multivariate statistical analysis, data mining, data fusion, and regression testing.
  • Experience in countermeasures and threats.
  • Demonstrated innovative problem solving.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering process for the development of system performance requirements, objectives, evaluation criteria and analysis for GMD Ground and Flight Test.
  • Experience evaluating future technologies and assessing discrimination algorithms.

Typical Education / Experience:

Level 3:
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
