Job Description

Overview:

  • GMD System Engineer Analyst in Huntsville, Alabama.  The GMD System is the first and only operationally deployed missile defense program to defend the homeland against Long-range ballistic missile attacks. The system provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of inbound ICBMs through force of hit-to-kill technology.  As prime contractor, Boeing is designing, producing, integrating, testing and sustaining all GMD components.
  • The selected individual will lead GMD systems analysis teams and support future design of system architecture through performance analysis, battle space analysis, defended area, capabilities and limitations, raid size, and discrimination algorithms.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and influencing emerging missile defense performance and designs.
  • Defining system analysis objectives and strategies.
  • Evaluating system analysis tools.
  • Determining courses of action and innovative approaches to complex system performance analysis and solutions.
  • Developing key relationships with the customer, analysis organizations, and potential external partners.
  • Proactively interacting with suppliers and government customer to facilitate collaboration.
  • Authoring and providing briefings to senior Boeing, customer, and industry leaders.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):

  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
  • This senior position has job responsibilities aligned to individuals with a degree and typical experience in engineering classification:  Bachelor's and 14 years’ experience, Master's with 12 years’ or more experience, or PhD with 9 years’ or more experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • A technical background in statistical M&S and have led teams performing algorithm development and analysis.
  • A good understanding of GMD system performance and how GMD works from the perspective of sensors, detection/tracking, ground systems, booster, kill vehicle, and threats.
  • Experience analyzing complicated physics problems using medium- and high-fidelity parametric models/simulations utilizing Monte Carlo techniques to provide insight into performance capabilities of real-world weapon systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sensor and target/scene characteristics and real-world performance expectations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of multivariate statistical analysis, data mining, data fusion, and regression testing.
  • Experience performing trade studies and analysis of alternatives.
  • Individual must possess excellent communication skills and is expected to interact frequently with customers and subject matter experts.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment.

 

Assets (Preferred):

  • Experience in countermeasures and threats.
  • Demonstrated innovative problem solving.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering process for the development of system performance requirements, objectives, evaluation criteria and analysis for GMD Ground and Flight Test.
  • Experience evaluating future technologies and assessing discrimination algorithms.

 

Typical Education / Experience:

Level 5:
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
