Job Description

Overview:

  • Boeing Research & Technology partners with Boeing business units to advance towards widespread application of modeling, simulation, and analytics across the lifecycle of our aerospace and defense products. Our research and development projects provide Boeing employees with better knowledge and tools increasing the value of our products and services. Projects include sponsors in Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, and Boeing Global Services.
  • The Boeing Company invites applications for a Software Engineer to create visualizations and simulations on or for aerospace and defense platforms and systems. The successful candidate will work on various projects, including those that use Game Engine technology to synthesize 3D models, other data and analysis tools to create an interactive, simulated environment. The engineer will have the skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations.

Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will work in Boeing Research & Technology organization in Huntsville, AL with the Complex System Analysis Services (CSAS) team. The engineer will have knowledge of modeling and simulation tools (e.g., Matlab, Simulink). They will have knowledge of computing equipment and its operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Android). They will have knowledge of software development and testing tools (e.g., editors, compilers, linkers, debuggers, desktop simulations, configuration management tools, requirements management tools, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, web authoring tools) capability and usage. They will have ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components. They will have the ability to learn and develop innovative software solutions for existing and proposed products and services.
  • A successful candidate will be able to work in the dynamic and distributed BR&T environment. Project work can be funded by Internal Application Development, Contracted Research and Development, or support to a Business Unit. An employee will work on a small project team where the knowledge and abilities of each person is important. The work is often simply described and the employee needs to be self-directed to organize and perform the work. Collaboration with others is important to successful project performance as is good communication with the project manager, principle investigator, and sponsor. An employee is typically hands-on, likes to figure things out, enjoys learning new things, and is good at applying what they have learned.
  • The employee at times will be asked to review proposal activities and support customer shaping meetings that require excellent written and verbal communication and ability to demonstrate a level of competency that will help capture new work. Possible scope also includes initiating and maintaining relationships on collaborative projects within the academic and industry setting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation tools (e.g. Matlab, Simulink).                 
  • Experience with three or more of the following: C, C++, C#, .NET, JavaScript.
  • Broad knowledge of software development tools (e.g., compilers, debuggers, linkers, editors).

 

Assets (Preferred):

  • Experience with aerospace and defense platforms and systems.
  • Experience in 3D digital content creation (CAD, 3DS, Maya, SAP VEA, Blender), Mobile web-interface application development, Virtual Reality.
  • Experience in developing applications in gaming software platforms (e.g., Unity, Unreal).
  • Broad knowledge of live, virtual and/or constructive simulation development and practice, with preference in aerospace applications.

 

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 3:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
