Job Description
NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) will provide a critical heavy-lift capability powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing Space Launch System is responsible for the design, development, test and production for the core stage and exploratory upper stage of the SLS.
 
The Space Launch System program Core Stage / Exploratory Upper Stage structural design teams have an opportunity for a senior mechanical design engineer.
 
General Job Duties & Responsibilities include:
- Using NASA and Boeing standards, leads development, maintenance and modification of primary and secondary structural systems using Creo 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Providing support to manufacturing base for non-conformances and supplier requests.
- Collaborating with manufacturing/assembly teams at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) to insure structural design requirements are met.

Qualifications
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
 

 

Requirements:
-  A degree is a requirement for this position;
-  Engineering degree in Mechanical or Aerospace is a plus;
-  Experience with space flight structural hardware & 3D CAD modeling and drawing generation is a plus. 
 
Typical Education / Experience:
 Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
