Job Description

Boeing Defense Space & Security is seeking a top notch Development & Mockup Model Mechanic to provide Phantom Works support in Las Vegas, Nevada location. Two positions are available.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

As a Development & Mockup Model Mechanic, the successful candidate will:
• Be able to will read, interpret and understand blue print engineering, manufacturing process specification and plan sequence of operations for final finish/paint applications on parts, assemblies and test articles.
• Sequence plan machine and weld operations for work where assembly shall be accomplished by this classification.
• Construct, alter, repair and lay out, mock-ups such as full scale aircraft, engine tube and cable (development fixture), structural, engineering details for trainers, dummy parts, tool details, (for mock-up and tool only) hammer forms, engine test ducts and stands.
• Lay out, construct, alter, and repair various types of test specimens; make, devise, and prove out varied developments of materials, make tools and injection molds, fabricate bonded assemblies, apply ablatives.
• Fabricate and assemble items such as scaled up articles of unusual hardware, which involve the use of materials and/or processes new to the industry to establish practices and/or manufacturing techniques and/or the reliability of material and/or processes.
• Bond Styrofoam for optical and/or laser tooling as required.
• Operate autoclave. Install and maintain thermocouples on tolling described in above duties.
• Construct, alter and repair template setups and flat type master models and molds.
• Use precision measuring instruments. Use optical and/or laser tooling as required.
• Be able to control and use tools and equipment associated with Plastic Fabricator/Structural Repair and maintenance measuring instruments, hand tools and special tools.
• Help maintain general shop housekeeping requirements along with following all tool maintenance and care guidelines and procedures.
• Set up and operate ALL necessary fabrication equipment and machinery including paint to complete assigned projects working in various media such as woods, metals, and plastics.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and proficiency in at least 3 of the following 7 core competencies: Aerospace Structural Assembly, Aerospace Mechanical Assembly, Composite Layup, Models & Mock-Up Fabrication, Sheet-Metal Fabrication, Aircraft / Parts Painting, And Machine/Milling Operations.

Ability to safely work alone AND in project teams is required.

Qualifications

Typical Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED. Prefer a minimum of five (5) or more years of related work experience. Prefer a minimum of five (5) or more years of related work experience.

Basic Qualifications

• This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance and the ability to obtain additional special access clearances (Special Compartmented Information/SCI) post start which requires polygraph examination. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
• This position requires a valid/current driver's license.
• Minimum of 3 years in fabrication tooling.
Preferred Skills & Attributes

• Air Force and/or Navy experience.
• Advanced Fabrication Training
• Prefer 5 or more years of fabrication tooling
