The Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking a EE System Design Engineer to join their team at Spectrolab, Inc. in Sylmar, CA.

As a System Design Engineer, you will be part of the Factory Automated Solutions Development team, which develops applications and products used in the manufacturing process of high efficiency photovoltaic cells.
This position requires excellent engineering skills and programming skills to support development and implementation of automated solutions and support of production automated equipment.
The ideal candidate has a passion for safety, advanced technologies, customer satisfaction, hardware and software engineering, quality, team building, and continuous process improvements. The candidate must have a relevant background in hardware/software system development with focus on automation, and hardware and software integration and testing. The candidate will also interact with teams of other engineering professionals.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Utilize advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]).
- Employ knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, inspection, software, technology, avionics).
- Interact with other departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business).
- Participate and facilitate discussions to gather, evaluate, translate user requirements into functional specifications and technical design.
- Collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
- Develop and execute test plans to verify the implementation is as per design.
- Communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables
- Evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, technical parameter integration and compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces from an engineering perspective.
- Implements, documents and maintains hardware/software functionality
- Documents, validates and researches reported problems and assists in troubleshooting
- Candidate must be a self-starter with a positive attitude, high ethics, strong analytical and creative problem solving skills and a track record of working successfully under pressure in a time-constrained environment.
- Should be an excellent team player.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- 4+ years’ experience developing software for automated solutions
- 3+ years’ experience troubleshooting hardware/ software anomalies, executing verification tests
- 1+ years’ experience in Test Automation tools and languages such as Python, LabVIEW.
- 1+ years of experience with and basic understanding of robotic systems, vision systems used in manufacturing to improve throughput and quality.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 3+ years’ experience with programming languages such as: C++, C, Java, MATLAB.
- Knowledgeable about latest automation technology trends and emerging technology areas
- Strong communication skills to engage peers, both within and outside the organization, external partners
- Ability to assess applicability of new technology to existing business processes, create business proposition and lead the insertion of applicable technology into Boeing ecosystem
- Experience with reading or writing hardware/software requirements.
- Automated equipment programming, troubleshooting.
- Experience with Database design/development (SQL preferred).

- Desire to learn and conduct hands-on development, product evaluations and proof of concepts in a diverse array of technologies with the goal of enabling business outcomes and values.
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in Computer Science and/or Engineering and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Masters + 2 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
