Spectrolab has an exciting opportunity for two Experienced CAD Design professionals to join us as part of our Product Design team team located in Sylmar, CA. You will have the opportunity to apply both your CAD skills and your creativity to address design and manufacturability issues in a fast paced Aerospace engineering and manufacturing environment.

These positions with Spectrolab support Boeing’s Defense and Security (BDS) organization.
You will focus on utilizing 2D AutoCAD to produce designs for Boeing’s Space and Launch sub organization, which is majorly located in El Segundo, and supported from other local regions as well as Seattle, Huntsville, and New Orleans. This role may support other sub organizations to Boeing’s BDS organization. A major focus is on design of solar panels, solar panel sub-assemblies, modules and components, and solar wing harnessing using AutoCAD/Inventor Pro Suite.
Position Responsibilities
- Design solar panels, solar panel sub-assemblies, modules and components, and solar wing harnessing using AutoCAD/Inventor Pro Suite
- Generate and process ECRs to maintain procurement drawings for piece parts and components as well as large and small electro-mechanical assembly drawing packages consistent with Spectrolab and Aerospace industry standards
- Work with Product Engineers to
- Assess customer ICDs and provide feedback/improvement suggestions to enhance compliance and/or manufacturability
- Translate customer schematics and specifications into achievable manufacturing plans, with part procurement drawings, sub-assembly drawings, panel layouts and detailed manufacturing drawings, inclusive of detail views, schematics, and wiring lists consistent with DFMAT principles
- Learn to generate and plot soft-tooling files derived from the AutoCAD model layer structure
- Adapt to changing priorities in support of manufacturing, engineering, and marketing needs
- Communicate effectively with a diverse group of both internal and external customers and colleagues
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Travel may be required up to 5% of the time; Domestically, depending on business needs.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- 5+ years’ experience using 2D AutoCAD (block parts, layer structure, etc) OR 3+ years using 2D AutoCAD WITH either an Associate's Degree (or higher) or Certification in CAD Design Plus
- 1+ years’ experience generating piece part and assembly drawings to Aerospace Standards (AS9100)
- 1+ years’ experience generating electro-mechanical designs, wiring layouts, schematics, and detail views in 2D AutoCAD
- 3+ years’ experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- 3+ years’ experience in electronic packaging and printed circuit board and assembly (PCB/PCBA) design
- GD&T certification/experience
- 3D Inventor mechanical/tooling design experience (including model management in VAULT)
Typical Education/Experience
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Relocation

Summary pay range: $55,000 - $95,000
