We are seeking a junior mass modeling engineer to join the Mass Modeling group in Aurora’s Flight Physics division. The group supports aircraft development efforts throughout their lifecycle.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Allocate, estimate and manage mass properties requirements, margins and weight growth allowances throughout the entire product lifecycle

  • Verify that the hardware meets requirements and that the mass properties model is an accurate representation of the air vehicle

  • Generate aircraft distributed mass profiles (cg and moments of inertia) from design data, or appropriate empirical methods when design data is not available

  • Verify component, subsystem, and system mass properties data by interfacing with members of the design, stress, integration, and test team

  • Interface with design IPT members to review and direct mass model updates

  • Plan, develop, and execute weight and balance testing to measure center of gravity and moment of inertia

  • Manage payload and ballast configurations to maintain appropriate weight and center of gravity

  • Development of system requirements, flowdown, and verification

  • Maintain mass properties records

  • Provide mass model reporting during weekly and monthly reviews with the customer

 

Minimum Requirements (education and experience):

  • BS in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field from an accredited university

  • Experience with using standard CAD packages (CATIA preferred)

  • Experience manipulating data using programing languages such as MATLAB, VB, Python, C++, JAVA, or other languages

  • Ability to solve a variety of complex problems using analytical methods, simulation, and hands-on experimental testing

  • Extensive computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite

  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment

  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude

  • Ability to support multiple activities with competing priorities and deadlines

  • Must be a US Citizen or Legal US Permanent Resident

      

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Experience with aircraft design and specific subsystems including propulsion, structures, electronics, and ground support equipment

  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control

  • Experience in creating, developing, and improving mass properties tool chains that interface with a CAD toolset

  • Familiarity with Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE) best practices, guidelines, and procedures
