Job Description


  • Lead the specification, design, analysis, fabrication, procurement and testing of mechanical systems (including control surface mechanisms, launch and recovery mechanisms, payload doors, EO/IR ball retraction, etc.), landing gear, nose wheel steering, brakes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Ground Service Equipment(GSE), and other related systems.
  • Produce installation layouts, component designs, solid models, and drawings.
  •  Develop static, dynamic, kinematic and stress analysis.
  • Develop and prepare engineering data for airworthiness certification.
  • Select vendors and coordinate the purchase of components that meet specifications and design intent.
  • Supervise and lead contractors, design engineers, analysts, drafters, and other assigned staff.
  •  Mentor staff with less experience.
  • Review and validate mechanical installations and components through simulation, analysis, and test data interpretation.
  • Support flight test operations and troubleshooting of assembly and operational problems.
  • Perform failure analysis and serve as the SME for RCCA efforts.
  • Lead mechanical systems related testing ranging from bench tests to envelope expansion flight tests.
  • Analyze test data, identify issues and develop solutions in detailed test reports.
  • Deliver verified mechanical systems for integration and test.
  • Write subsystem-level requirements, test plans and procedures.
  • Work with Airframe Engineers, Avionics Engineers and Aerodynamicists to create requirements for subsystems that have a direct effect on the mechanical system’s operation.
  • Design and procure any system-specific GSE, test articles or test fixtures.
  • Develop and maintain schedules to meet program goals set by the Program Managers.
  • Prepare documentation to support design decisions and to resolve issues. Prepare PowerPoint presentations for PDRs and CDRs. Assist the project leadership in preparing for technical interchange meetings and technical program reviews.


  • BS in Engineering or related discipline with 7 to 15 years of experience in aerospace mechanical system development.
  • Expert at analyzing complex functions, procedures, and problems to find creative, logical, and effective solutions
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of 5-7 engineers in technical product development
  • Experience leading and mentoring an engineering team through the design, fabrication, and testing of aerospace mechanical systems
  • Experience using CAD systems (CATIA V5 preferred)
  • Must be a US Citizen


  • MS or PhD in Engineering.
  • Experience managing 10-12 direct reports, conducting performance reviews, and balancing staffing needs among multiple programs.
  •  Experience with development and flight certification of propulsion systems
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 21, 23, and/or Military Flight Release (MFR) process.
