Job Description

The Information Services team helps employees across Boeing create, access, understand, harness, manage, and disseminate information. They optimize the latest developments in information management strategies to support Boeing innovation and competitiveness, delivering high quality, cost effective solutions on a global scale. The Copyright Specialist is responsible for advising on copyright policy and decisions, as well as determining day-to-day actions on copyright compliance.

The Organize & Manage team works with customers across Boeing to make sure that the right information gets to the right people in the most efficient way.
As experts in information management and licensing of technical and business information, the Copyright Specialist provides guidance for compliance on strategies, policies, processes, services, communications, instructions, infrastructure, and relationships that support Boeing’s endeavors and protect the legal interests of the company, its employees, and stockholders.

• Remain current on U.S. copyright legislation and Boeing guidelines, regulations, issues, interpretations, legal opinions, collectives (e.g., licenses and tariffs), and other licensing agreements
• Advise on Boeing’s interpretation and application of copyright law
• Assess risks to Boeing of processes and actions related to copyright compliance
• Review copyrighted materials at Boeing, provide guidance for compliance
• Identify copyright issues that require legal opinion from Boeing’s legal counsel
• Coordinate copyright clearance support
• Refer copyright requirements to appropriate suppliers as necessary to obtain copyright licenses
• Determine alternate strategies if copyright clearance is not obtained
• Review activities of staff tasked with implementation of copyright standards and policies
• Track, compile and analyze statistics on copyright usage
• Respond to copyright inquiries from Boeing business partners, course authors, and instructors
• Design and deliver educational communications to Boeing business partners and LED course authors
• Shares knowledge and contributes to the development of information management products and services
• Collaborates with the other Information Management lifecycle job functions
• Participates with Enterprise system architecture and applications function

Typical Education/Experience: 

Bachelor's and typically 6 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


 Basic Qualifications:

• 5 + years of demonstrated experience working in copyright education and compliance in relevant fields (e.g., publishing, journalism, education, and law)

• This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience supporting copyright in a corporate environment
• Professional experience or demonstrated knowledge in aerospace, engineering, or another field of science & technology
• Ability to work independently, as a team member, and across organizational boundaries in a fast paced, highly demanding environment
• Knowledge and use of project management principles
• Some experience in the use of content such as the terms and conditions applied to subscribed content being used to support Boeing requirements
