BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2,000 staff in support of our Defence customers. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook and Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.
In order to provide continued support to the customer, Chinook Operations are looking for an Operations Manager to lead and manage the Operations Support Team. Reporting directly to the Chinook Senior Operations Manager and based primarily at Middle Wallop, the role of Chinook Operations Support Manager has two fundamental aspects, both of which are aligned to providing direct Operations support to the delivery of Chinook scheduled maintenance and capability upgrade programmes. The first element is Front Line Leadership (FLL) of the Operations Support Team, which includes aircraft documentation control, maintenance scheduling, maintainer training, tool control, and site administration. The second is balancing your time between being a FLL and being the Chinook Operations focal for a variety of core processes, including but not limited to, Quality and Safety - in particular the containment and resolution of any occurrences, FOD prevention and 6S.
The job will be varied and requires regular interaction with other internal BDUK Functions, as well as direct engagement with the Customer. Although the role is primarily based at Middle Wallop, Chinook Operations also has a significant presence at RAF Odiham, so there will on occasion, be a requirement to be on site there too. Examples of key tasks include:
- Leading a team in the management and delivery of:
- Aircraft documentation and tool control
- Aircraft maintenance scheduling, including management of emergent work and over and above maintenance tasking.
- Chinook maintenance training coordination - management of maintenance authorisations, coordination of training requirements/courses and delivery of on-the-job-training.
- Generation and management of aircraft maintenance schedules.
- Chinook Operations lead for Quality and Safety, leading with corrective actions to any non-compliances.
- Chinook Operations lead for Continuous Improvement, FOD management. Boeing One Production System and 6S at Middle Wallop and RAF Odiham.
- Through your team provide day-to-day support directly to the other Chinook Operations Managers in delivery of aircraft within the BDUK Pt145 Approval.
- Management, mentoring and development of the Chinook Operations Support Team.
Preferred Qualifications and experience:
- Experience of managing and leading employees in an aerospace environment.
- Ability to mentor and coach team members and develop productive relationships with direct reports
- Demonstrable ability to effectively and proactively manage their own and their teams’ workloads.
- Familiarity with quality and safety systems within an aerospace environment.
- Excellent communication skills that provide the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of maintainer training and aircraft schedule management would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of military airworthiness and regulatory systems would be beneficial.
- Candidates with an appropriate mix of formal qualifications and experience appropriate to the role will be considered.
Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which the Government requires UK Citizenship.
