Job Description

Summary:

Responsible and accountable for the continued development, recognition and mobilization of Global Navigation Services (GNS) staff. Collaborates with Manager  to develop, plan and communicate production and support tactics.  Ensures successful execution of day to day production and support activities, for continuously improving quality and overall operational performance, and for achieving operational results which meet or exceed customer expectations. Manages subordinate staff (typically 10-15 employees with significant decision making latitude) to include recruiting, training, performance and compensation management, motivating, delegating and monitoring results.

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Employee recruiting, training, performance management, and monitoring results. Coaches, counsels, mentors, motivates and provides developmental opportunities, job assignments and continuous feedback to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.  Recognizes contributions of individuals and teams to improve employee satisfaction and retain a skilled and motivated workforce.  Gets work done through delegation.  Enforces company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
  • Develops internal functional team plans, policies and procedures and provides input on functional team business and technical imperatives, goals and objectives.  Provides focus on key internal functional team initiatives and deliverables and supports Senior Managers to define departmental structure.  Executes on strategic approach and plans by approving, monitoring metrics and course correcting the technical approach and processes used to execute on program/projects/processes.  Applies a solid understanding of budget management principles and practices to ensure realistic budgets are attained in area of responsibility.  Forecasts, obtains and manages personnel, facilities, services, equipment and tools to meet project and functional team requirements.  Provides accurate inputs to the departmental long range business plan based on staffing and infrastructure needs.
  • Promotes a culture that values open and honest communication.  Establishes partnerships and relationships with internal and external customers, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports to ensure results are achieved.  Effectively, professionally and proactively communicates with peers, customers, staff and suppliers regarding tactical plans, resource plans, cultural expectations and operational performance.  Develops and effectively and consistently communicates functional team goals, imperatives and related metrics.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by deploying enterprise best practices and engaging employees to improve cost, quality, delivery, employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction.  Regularly participates with peers in leadership community of practice activities.  Reviews and collaborates with the Senior Manager on departmental facility, equipment and service plans to maximize productivity and ensure safety, security, environmental and regulatory compliance.  Reviews tactical plan effectiveness thru metrics collected.   Defines appropriate adjustments, escalates if needed, and resolves issues.  Leads single-functional teams that execute on plans to streamline processes and implement best practices.  Participates on teams that cross departmental boundaries.

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures that typically affect individual subordinate employees.  Knowledge of skills and abilities required by subordinate employees to accomplish organizational responsibilities.
  • Ability to accomplish results mainly through direct supervision of employees.  Often responsible for a specific phase of a project or operations.  Note: Typically includes leaders of a team or project that also have full management responsibility for dire
  • Skilled in monitoring the daily operations of a unit and actively assisting or providing direction to subordinates as required.  May perform in staff or professional groups ongoing operational tasks of organization unit.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules
  • Majority of liaison is on an internal basis.  External contacts are infrequent and involve routine matters.
