Boeing’s Defense, Space and Security currently has openings for Associate Technicians (Fabrication Specialist- Level B).These positions are with the Boeing Exploration Launch Systems supporting production of the NASA SLS Core Stage and are based at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Boeing and NASA are building the world's largest rocket for human exploration of deep space. The Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space to enable diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the massive core stage, and development of the avionics.
The minimum core competencies and expectations for this experienced position include:
Knowledge: Has a general understanding of the job.
Problem Solving: Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to practices and procedures for guidance.
Discretion: Requires limited instructions for routine work and general instructions for new lines of work or special assignments; supervision is limited. Participates in determining details of assignments to accomplish a wide range of objectives. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Communication: Interacts frequently with internal and external personnel and customers. Obtains or provides information on important or sensitive organization matters.
Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks.
Perform all tasks involved in the preparation, set up and operation of thermal processing tools and equipment.
Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks.
Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains.
Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products.
Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products.
Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests.
Performs organic chemical conversion and paint preparation.
Applies organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements.
Works on complex components and systems using established drawings and requirements.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position is for a variable shift.
This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Willingness to work in variable shift; including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
More than 1 year of experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.
More than 1 year of experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Previous experience with NASA and/or other aerospace customers
Education/experience typically acquired through basic education (e.g. High School diploma/GED) and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. vocational school/Associate).
Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
