The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Thermal Protection Systems Engineer (Level 4) to join our team in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This candidate will be responsible for the Requirements Definition, Updates and revisions for Thermal Protective Systems (TPS) including Primer, Spray-On Insulation (manual and robotic) and Pour Foams. This will additionally include application of ablative material. This position also consists of regular travel to the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. In addition, the candidate selected for this role may have an opportunity to work some overtime, in addition to non-standard work hours and weekends.
Position Responsibilities:
Provides Non Conformance disposition support to Engineering and Quality when required for TPS Materials and Processes
Lead / Participate in Focus / Working Groups addressing applicable equipment used in TPS Processing
Coordinates with cross-functional disciplines and the NASA customer.
Clear and concise communication at all levels of engineering, quality and production
Defines requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and maintenance of products and approves their use.
Leads production of specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes.
Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
Promotes standardization across business activities.
Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
Leads development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements. Integrates new technologies as appropriate.
Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
Conducts complex analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes.
Implements corrective and preventive actions.
Leads design, development and qualification of sophisticated computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.
Leads others and work statement, assist defining strategies and/or provides consultation
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
This is a NASA Safety Sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years of experience with polymers & organic chemistry
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
A bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering
Experience in thermal protection systems
Experience with spray or pour foam applications
Experience with thermal protection materials (foams, polyurethanes in aerospace applications)
Typical Education / Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
