Job Description

Boeing has an opening for a Metrology/ CAMS (Computer Aided Metrology Services) Tooling Specialist to support Propulsion South Carolina and the 787 program in North Charleston, South Carolina. This is a Level 3 position.  


Primary Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reviews, estimates, coordinates and manages projects requiring multiple portable metrology systems and software.
  • Identifies requirements and objectives of project to select appropriate measurement and analysis methodology. Assesses, interprets and summarizes generated results.
  • Utilizes design software to extract/develop three dimensional product and tool definition models for measurement data evaluation on a self-directed level. Reviews blueprints and specifications for incorporation within models.
  • Performs system performance checks, scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and corrections. Determines and implements proper configuration required for multiple measurement systems. Manages scheduled calibration of artifacts.
  • Provides detailed Metrological reporting to customers in a variety of formats such as Excel, PDF and PPT.
  • Supports and reviews current technology capabilities for future state implementation. Provides training and facilitates deployment. Identifies opportunities for process improvement to increase efficiency and productivity. Shares best practices and deliver presentations.

Typical Education / Experience
AA degree in related discipline and typically 3 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Hardware-related experience with the following:
    • Experience with laser tracker and handheld t-probe and t-scan systems.
    • Experience operating metrology devices such as CMM, PCMM or laser Tracker
    • Experience with preventive maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Software-related experience with the following:
    • More than 3 years of experience with CATIA or Enovia
    • CATIA Model Based Definition Product Design Data and importing to relevant metrology software application).
    • Experience with metrology software such as Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer or Verisurf
    • Experience with automated measurement plans.

Candidates must be able to work any shift as required, and available to work overtime as needed due to business needs.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coaching and mentoring others.
  • Hardware-related experience with automated metrology systems.
  • Software-related experience with Visual Studio
  • Experience with measurement uncertainty.
  • Experience with metrological analysis.
  • Experience with best practices in measurement.
  • Experience with GD&T and associated measurement data alignments.
  • Experience with basic statistical data analytics.
