Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) team and our 787 Program Interiors team is seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join our Interiors Responsibility Center South Carolina (IRCSC) team based in North Charleston, SC.

In this role you will develop and maintain engineering product definition. Prepare design layouts and modify existing designs. Develop engineering product definition, and statements of work, including design requirements, cost and schedule estimates. You will coordinate and develop work transfer packages.

You’ll contribute to the integration of product definition across internal and external business partners to provide a functional end-product. You’ll investigate and resolve moderately-complex manufacturing process, or engineering related issues. You will verify the accuracy of engineering data produced by others.

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and modify interior payload system and component designs, using CATIA, ENOVIA, IVT and other 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production support, operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product life-cycle.

  • Develops, coordinates, and executes a variety of engineering statements of work while demonstrating and utilizing a working knowledge of project management best practices.

  • Interpret, author, and/or review technical documents and reports applicable to company and regulatory requirements pertaining to aircraft interior products.

  • Development of design layouts, design definition, and the modification of new and/or existing design data to produce a product that satisfy customer, production, and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with internal and external members across the value stream with the goal of providing a quality and timely product.

  • Investigates and verifies the accuracy of engineering data in order to resolve engineering related issues within a moderately-complex manufacturing environment.

  • Develops and maintains engineering product definition/data within company and regulatory requirements/parameters while overseeing the proper interpretation and adherence within the build and assembly of interior products throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbally throughout all levels of leadership and across multiple internal and/or external organizations.

  • Consistently produces quality work with minimal or no supervision.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Associates’ of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or other STEM field or equivalent experience related to the role.

  • At least 6 years of experience with 3D modeling (Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, SketchUp, Pro-E, CATIA, etc.) and/or combination of additional education and relevant experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills while communicating with leaders and colleagues in an engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Associate's degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.

  • At least 6 years of experience with CATIA V5.

  • Ability to correctly analyze a problem, demonstrates sound reasoning while identifying an optimal solution, and is able to execute to an identified plan.

  • Working knowledge of standard business and engineering software (Microsoft Office Suite, product data management software, etc.).

  • At least 6 years of experience drawing, reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Knowledge of Project Management Best Practices such as establishing and maintaining deadlines, risk identification and mitigation, ability to communicate within all levels of leadership, internal and external customers, as well as across organizations.

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area.

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).

Salary:

$74,600 - $102,000
