Job Description

Boeing South Carolina has Tooling Designer openings available within both the Engineering Design Center and 787 Mid/Aft/Final Tooling teams. These Level 3 positions are located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The exact team assigned will be determined prior to start date.


Primary Responsibilities

will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluates program and project requirements, develops complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System.
  • Compiles and analyzes technical data to determine the effects on product engineering design and rate estimates, identifies robotics, automation or technology recommendations and system integration for equipment and tooling.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Validates contractual performance milestones, maintains configuration control, conducts reviews, prepares plans for productions readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares.
  • Conducts training for Production and Maintenance personnel.
  • Develops and implements work-arounds and maintains configuration of hardware, software and documentation.
  • Performs studies and make recommendation for disposition of assets.

Typical Education / Experience

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.



Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) Experience
  • More than 1 year of experience in tool design (specifically with plant tooling).

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than 5 years of experience using Catia V5, Enovia, and VELOCITY
  • Experience in OSP (Out Source Package) processing, including design reviews
  • 787 Tooling Engineering experience (to include design processes, requirements and specification as well as creating and releasing 3D/2D CATIA drawings)
  • Willingness to work with virtual teams
