Job Description

Boeing's Strike, Surveillance and Mobility (SSM) Mission Systems group is seeking highly qualified mid-career systems software engineers. The team is responsible for defining and managing the system architecture required for the Airborne Surveillance, Command and Control (ASC2) platforms including Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEWC), and others. Members of the team include specialists in the areas of Datalinks, Mission Computing Hardware and Software, Radar systems, ESM and Satcom. These positions are located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Selected candidates may have the opportunity to work both individually and as part of a collaborative team on architecture and integration activities between Boeing sensor systems, suppliers, airframe and mission computing across Requirements, Design and Test Teams to ensure successful integration with subsystems and provide leadership to ensure all required functions comply with requirements for surveillance aircraft platforms that enable air superiority by detecting, identifying, and tracking airborne threats. Tasks will range across the full development lifecycle to include requirements analysis, design, development, test, documentation, licensing, troubleshooting, and user support.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing leadership for all phases (requirements, design, development and integration/test) of project development activities;
  • Leading aspects of critical supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements;
  • Reviewing sensor subcontractor design, development, integration and testing of software and hardware systems;
  • Participating in peer reviews, design reviews and related activities;
  • Leading corrective action process and product improvement projects to enhance product quality;
  • Developing risk mitigation plans for presentation to management and customers;
  • Supporting the pursuit of new business including estimating;
  • Verifying high quality functionality is developed and properly tested;
  • Monitoring status, metrics, schedules and plans;
  • Define and allocate the system requirements and architecture across the various ASC2 mission systems IPTs, working with the IPTs to ensure that the design of the subsystems fits within the architecture and will integrate with other subsystems; and
  • Requires working with foreign customers and export.

The SSM team is also responsible for the modernization and modification of several U.S. Department of Defense and international aircraft programs, including various surveillance and reconnaissance, head of state and bomber aircraft.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Experience in Windows, Linux or UNIX operating environments.
  • A software or hardware background; 
  • A full understanding of Systems Engineering principles (i.e., the Systems Engineering V Diagram).
  • Requires strong technical leadership, communication and organization skills.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Minimum of 8+ years working on large complex development system/activities
  • Experience with Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) Systems or similar systems.
  • Experience working with external (i.e. non-Boeing) stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, or government representatives.
  • Experience leading assessment and collaborative resolution of complex cross-functional technical issues amongst multiple diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience applying risk management and mitigation principles.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers of aircraft components.
  • Experience in technical leadership of Software or Systems Architecture
  • Experience in Multi-Sensor Fusion, Datalink and Software/Sensor integration
  • Experience with Rationale DOORs, Rose, Clearcase, and Clearquest
  • Experience with project estimating process, Change Processing & Estimating Systems (CPES) and Earned Value Management (EVM) 
  • Experience with foreign customers and export control


Typical Education/Experience:
Bachelor's 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 

Relocation:
Relocation is available for eligible candidates. Final eligibility will be determined by Boeing's Relocation Service Provider.
