Job Description

The F/A-18 & EA-18G Flight Test Team is looking for a motivated Flight Test Engineer (FTE) to join the Patuxent River, Maryland team.


The successful candidate will:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directing maintenance activity and controlling configuration on one or more F/A-18 / EA-18G flight test aircraft.
  • Supporting pre-flight briefs, and post-flight debriefs. Briefing test pilots on aircraft configuration, weight & balance, maintenance activity, and changes since last flight at each pre-flight brief.
  • Real-time support and monitoring of test flights.
  • Writing flight reports for each test flight supported.
  • Coordinating with test team personnel, project engineers, maintenance, and US Navy customer.
  • Acting as Liaison between engineering test team and maintenance personnel to accomplish required maintenance and reconfiguration for testing.
  • Creating and issuing timely / accurate paperwork to ensure proper / safe test aircraft configuration to support scheduled flight and ground tests.
  • Conducting effective work program meetings to discuss required work on assigned aircraft, modifications, test schedules, configuration, etc.
  • Assisting Test Conductor with preparation for, and conduct of, F/A-18 test flights.

This position may require occasional travel short term or long term to different flight test locations in support of flight test programs.

Work hours for this position are primarily first shift, though work hours on 2nd or weekend work for extended periods of time may be required to support testing.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • Applicant must have the ability to obtain an Interim and/or Final Secret Clearance (Pre-Start), and maintain Final Secret Clearance throughout period of employment.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Preferred candidates will have Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous Flight Test experience.


Typical Education/Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
