Job Description

Summary:

 

Develops proficiency as a technical resource on instrument approach/departure criteria, airspace compatibility, airspace design and evaluation, formal aeronautical information, and air traffic management.  Conducts obstacle evaluation, or airspace design, and determines the effects of construction proposals in the national airspace systems. Provides technical direction, training and guidance to co-workers and others as directed.

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluates, develops, validates, revises, verifies, and maintains instrument approach procedures, including new products and related criteria procedures.
  • Develops proficiency as a technical resource on instrument approach/departure criteria, airspace compatibility, airspace design and evaluation, formal aeronautical information, and air traffic management.
  • Manages the workflow for multiple projects within established deadlines.
    Develops airspace maps and authors supporting documentation for the support of instrument procedures and air traffic control.
  • Trains airspace specialists and technicians on the interpretation, use, and application of design criteria; mentors and oversees others in the use of appropriate tools in the development and design of instrument flight procedures and airspace.
    Formulates and evaluates the need for airspace expansion and enhancement for the containment of instrument procedures.
  • Performs obstacle evaluation programs  in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration, International Civil Aviation Organization and/or local civil aviation department requirements; conducts aeronautical case studies to determine the effects of construction proposals on national airspace systems.
  • Performs administrative and additional duties, as well as other tasks, as assigned.In coordination with management, participates in process improvement initiatives regarding workflow and makes viable recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness; provides quality review of all deliverables.

Education/Experience:

 

Four-year degree in a related field of study and typically three or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Makes use of and applies job practices, techniques, standards, principles, and concepts.
  • Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to policies, procedures, and practices for guidance.
  • Works under general supervision. Products are reviewed for sound judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Contributes to the completion of organizational projects and goals. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results may result in the allocation of additional resources.
  • Interacts primarily with internal personnel and external customers. Represents the organization on specific projects.
