Job Description

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a creative and highly-motivated Software Engineer to develop, integrate, test, and deliver complex software solutions to join the Weapons Software team in St. Charles. The engineer will work with a multi-discipline engineering team to design, develop, and deploy operational flight software on weapon systems. The engineer will work in all phases of the software development lifecycle to implement real-time embedded software applications for guidance and navigation, seeker control, or mission management.


The Weapons organization is a strong and growing business that produces long-range precision-guided weapons and direct attack munitions, which are employed around the world to support the defense of the United States and more than 30 U.S. allied countries.  The missile and weapon portfolio includes the Harpoon and Standoff Land Attack Missile-Expanded Response (SLAM-ER) and Harpoon missiles, Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), and the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB).


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, documents and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Performs software project management and software supplier management functions
  • Develops, selects, tailors and deploys processes, tools, and metrics
  • Executes and documents software research and development projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations
  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards
  • Works under general direction

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.


Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • 5 or more years of experience in developing software on a Windows or Linux platform
  • 5 or more years of experience with C++ or Ada
  • 3 or more years of experience with real-time embedded applications
  • 3 or more years of experience with Visual Studio, git, JIRA, Green Hills AdaMULTI, ClearCase and/or ClearQuest
  • Previous role that utilized Boeing's set of standard engineering processes (EOSSP)

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering classification (engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry)
  • Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
