Job Description
The Space and Missile Systems (SMS) strategy organization is seeking a Strategy Analyst to lead strategic analysis in support of the Weapons division.

This position will be responsible for the research, assessment and development of strategies focused on weapons and integrated weapons systems to drive profitable growth to meet business commitments including evaluating opportunities, developing business cases and business plans, supporting campaign bid strategies, competitive assessments, and coordinating investment plans (internal and M&A). This position with also support strategic activities in support of the division’s missile defense portfolio. While reporting into SMS Strategy leadership, this position directly supports the weapons leadership team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assessing the effects of market forces (customer needs, funding priorities, and competition) on SMS’s competitive position and growth strategies
  • Evaluation of SMS’s technical capabilities and market gaps to increase competitiveness
  • Informing/supporting partnership and M&A strategies

The Strategy Analyst must possess flawless analytical, communication, and presentation skills (utilizing Excel and PowerPoint), with the ability to distill complex problems into cogent recommendations to advise senior leadership. Proven ability to build and leverage close working relationships across the business with stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports to successfully navigate challenging business decisions is required. Previous experience with weapons systems development and a technical background are highly desired.

Strong value addition skills: Understands and uses a hypothesis driven approach to strategy development. Clear, effective and organized written communications, the ability to defend strategic assumptions and analysis through critical reviews and debate, ability to build business cases for new concepts and business ideas. Develops solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with the BDS strategic objectives. Ability to generate insights from quantitative and qualitative data to explain implications on business strategy. Knowledge of the Aerospace & Defense industry and its related technologies.

A successful candidate should have an understanding of the bigger strategic picture, but also have the ability to deep-dive into the key strategic and tactical issues of the businesses and divisions within BDS. The successful candidate must be able to work independently to generate key strategic analysis, possess an aptitude for critical thinking and also have the ability to present the insights from this analysis to senior leaders within the business. The candidate must also be able to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries on a daily basis.

Qualifications
Typical Education & Experience
Technical bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematics, scientific or information technology field of study.

Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • Prior experience supporting weapons programs
  • Technical background in weapons development
  • The ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance post hire. 
  • Experience performing strategic analysis on the aerospace or defense industry
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency and experience

Preferred

  • A current Secret clearance
  • Experience performing business case analysis ( problem identification, quantitative modeling and problem solving)
  • Knowledge of the Aerospace & Defense industry and its related technologies.


This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
