Job Description

The Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) organization is a seeking a highly motivated and energetic early-career engineer to join the Thermoplastic Composite Materials and Fabrication team in St. Louis, Mo. This group is responsible for developing and transitioning the next generation of thermoplastic composite materials, processes, and associated technologies to platforms within both the Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) and Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) business units. The team supports next generation commercial aircraft technologies and designs, as well as technology implementations for existing platforms like the 787 and 777X. On the BDS side, the team supports both development projects, like the NASA Experimental Space Plane, and next generation military platforms.


As an engineer in our group, your initial assignment will be to act as the lab lead for the thermoplastic composites lab in St. Louis, MO. You will get hands-on exposure to the latest technology in thermoplastic composite material prepreg and products forms, and thermoplastic composite layup and forming equipment.

In addition to the lab lead role, you will also support the team to work to in typical material and process engineering role.


• Evaluate and implement emerging and disruptive technologies
• Define requirements for future materials, parts and processes to be used in the manufacture of aerospace products
• Perform tests to qualify new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
• Conduct basic analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes
As the lab lead, you will be responsible for the following activities:
• Working with internal customers on definition of work requests and projects
• Implementation of productivity and safety enhancement projects
• Organization and scheduling of lab work
• Documentation of best practices and knowledge sharing on composite processes
• Working to the BR&T labs best practices and quality requirements

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.


Basic/Required Qualifications:


Bachelors degree
Experience or coursework in materials, mechanical, composite or process engineering


Preferred Qualifications:


Experience in a composite lab or any lab is preferred
Experience with Microsoft Project or other scheduling software


Typical Education/Experience:


Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
