Job Description

The Boeing Company is seeking Mid-Career Structural Analysis Engineers to fill positions in Saint Louis, MO. The Fatigue & Tracking (F&T) Team performs structural fatigue analysis and aircraft fatigue life monitoring (fatigue tracking) for the F/A-18 E/F, EA-18G, F-15, and T-X programs. There are two different roles available for the various teams.

One of the positions to be filled is for a Structural Analysis Engineer within the F/A-18 fatigue tracking portion of team. The primary product is the F/A-18 fatigue monitoring software and the resulting structural analyses. Strong candidates would have existing skills or a strong interest in (1) fatigue spectrum generation, crack initiation analysis, and the airframe certification process, (2) simulation and re-creation of air vehicle flight events and loads from recorded data, (3) statistical and numerical analysis methods, including data mining / data science, (4) software development of large complex source code which measures and simulates airframe loading and calculates fatigue damage at hundreds of locations, on thousands of aircraft. An additional opening for a comparable role exists on the F-15/T-X team.

The other positions are for Fatigue Analysis Engineers that support airframe and spares production as well as supporting in-service structural issues and fatigue life extension programs. Provide fatigue support for a number of weapons integration and capabilities expansion efforts. Team tasks include durability and damage tolerance analysis, Master Events Spectrum generation, fatigue allowables development for design, and structural certification of redesign components.

While the above provides details of the fatigue specific aspects of the position, the following is a more general description of the position duties.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural requirements to establish the system design.
  • Coordinates with other engineering groups to establish the product's environment.
  • Guides product design and verifies structural integrity by using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance.
  • Develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied.
  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements.
  • Works under general direction.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Structural Analysis experience.
  • Fatigue or Fatigue Tracking experience.

Desired Qualifications (Preferred Skills/Experience):

  • Familiarity with Fortran and Bash (UNIX Shell).

Typical Education/Experience:


Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
