Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has an outstanding opportunity in its Strategy group for a Senior Strategy Development Specialist to join their team in St. Louis, Missouri.
The BDS Strategy function is responsible for overall strategy development and planning for the approximately $26B defense and security business within The Boeing Company. As an analyst on this team, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the Aerospace and Defense industry and to guide the strategic development for one of the most successful defense and security companies in the world.
The selected candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Phantom Works Strategy. Specific duties include supporting a portfolio within Phantom Works and working with other Boeing units on cross-enterprise initiatives. The position plays a critical role in coordinating across the defense business’ divisions to drive decision alignment, communicating Boeing strategies to achieve global growth, innovation and productivity and driving senior leadership decision making on key strategic imperatives. BDS Strategy team members work individually and within project teams made up of fellow strategy personnel, functional / technical experts and business unit representatives focused on the most important opportunities and issues to BDS.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, possess an aptitude for critical thinking, work collaboratively across organizational boundaries on a daily basis, and also have the ability to present the insights to external and internal stakeholders. This individual will have an understanding of the bigger strategic picture, but also have the ability to deep-dive into the key strategic and tactical issues of the businesses and divisions within BDS.
Provide guidance to others
Present oral briefings of analytic findings to senior executive audiences
Draw business-relevant insights that inform leadership decision-making
Lead high-level strategic approaches, develop deliverables and execute processes
Develop solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with enterprise strategic objectives, which leverage insights from quantitative and qualitative data to explain implications on business environment and strategy
Collaborate and engage at all levels of the organization, including direct support of senior leaders
Research and synthesize market and competitive intelligence across a variety of defense market segments to obtain insights and drive decisions
Responsible for developing strategic alternatives to meet the defense business’ strategic objectives including investment prioritization, development of technical roadmaps, business case analysis and strategic partnerships
Coach/mentor/inspire strategy analysts and be responsible for their functional skill development
Provide strategic solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and creativity
Guide the successful completion of aspects of major strategic projects and may function in a project leadership role
Interact with senior personnel across multiple divisions and functions on significant strategic matters often requiring coordination between organizations
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Experience structuring strategy projects and leading teams in strategy projects
Experience in strategy, competitive assessment, business intelligence, financial analysis or supply chain analysis and/or market analysis
Experience in leadership either formally or informally leading teams in a cross-functional environment
Experience with demonstrated ability to foster relationships and influence senior level executives
Experience in business development and/or building business cases
Proficient utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
MBA or advanced business/finance, strategy, or international degrees
Self-starter able to work independently to generate key strategic analysis
Experience using a hypothesis driven approach to strategy development
Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail
Clear, effective and organized written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to defend strategic assumptions and analysis through critical reviews and debate
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment; completed work is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long-term perspective
Experience in the defense or aerospace industry
Experience being a strategic business partner supporting a leadership team
Experience with defense industry markets and competitive landscape
Experience in defense related technologies with prior technology planning
Consulting, Strategy, and/or Business Planning experience
Experience in developing long-term strategies
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
