We are seeking an experienced Avionics Systems Engineer with experience in Launch Vehicles to join our Experimental Space Plane (XSP) program. The XSP Program is set out to design the next generation reusable launch vehicles in a style of aircraft like operations. XSP is an exciting, fast paced, ‘break the mold’ type program, and we are seeking candidates willing to think outside the box to achieve our objectives. A successful candidate must work well with others, b willing to stretch beyond their experience base and to take risks to achieve objectives. This position is best suited to individuals who are self-starters, highly motivated, work well in fast paced multi-discipline team environments, and eager to learn various facets of the systems engineering discipline.
This person applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex life-cycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
This position will report to the Space and Launch capability group based at Kennedy Space Center (KSC).
- Responsible for XSP Avionics Systems that includes (but not limited to) Communication systems, Range Safety and flight terminations and Interface control.
- This candidate is also responsible for Development and Qualification test plans.
- Supports Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Minimum BS degree in Engineering or Physics is required
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience (highly desired) Communication systems, Range Safety and flight terminations and Interface control.
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
