Introduction:
Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK), through its Aircraft Support Programme, provides design and sustainment support services to multiple rotary and fixed wing aircraft including, AH-64E, CH-47, C-17, P8-A and E-7. Boeing employs over 2,000 people across the UK at numerous sites, and the company is experiencing solid organic growth.
We are currently looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join the well established In Service Engineering Supportability team, heading up the BDUK Long Term Training and Support Service (LTTSS) capability at Wattisham and Middle Wallop operating across the UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and regulatory frame work. This is a full-time role based at Wattisham.
Responsibilities:
As the Apache in Service Engineering Support Manager the successful candidate will:
- Manage a team of Customer support Engineers based at Wattisham and Middle Wallop delivering a technical query, fault investigation and repair service using Type Airworthiness Authority and Boeing approved Technical Information.
- Support the Apache Delivery team, Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) Approved Maintenance Organisations, Military Maintenance Organisations, Air System Co-ordinating Design Organisation and our contracted suppliers by providing exemplary technical support through the delivery of contracted products and service to time and cost, which are compliant with MAA Regulatory Publications.
- Manage and lead the provision of technical advice in accordance with the approved Air System Documentation Set (ADS), Boeing approved Technical Information in compliance with Boeing standard procedures, processes, and practices.
- Analyze and resolve customer technical queries, fault diagnostics and quality investigations, interfacing with Boeing MESA and the wider Boeing Enterprise and supplier technical experts as and when appropriate.
- Draw upon considerable knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures, practices, standards & specifications to support the execution of Customer, supplier and BDUK Part 145 approved maintenance organisations covering all systems as defined by the relevant organisations ratings.
- Support the Customer by the provision of Design Organisation approved procedures, repair advice and associated technical data to perform maintenance.
- Demonstration of Change Management and Configuration control is essential in managing the lifecycle of the platform in order to maintain airworthiness.
- Develops, manages and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.
- Ensure co-ordination between the engineering functions, such as Mission Assurance, Integrated Logistics Support, Design and training services.
- Support platform system, propulsion, software, configuration and integrity working groups in support of the Apache Chief Engineer.
- Liaise closely with other BDUK Functions to ensure that they are provided with the required Apache technical support to deliver their contractual obligations.
- Work with functional counterparts to understand and ensure process inputs and outputs are clearly defined and followed to enable products and services to meet requirements and delivered on schedule and within costs.
- Establish a culture of proactive technical oversight, risk management and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and opening dialogue on technical issues.
- Appropriate project management experience and be able to demonstrate knowledge of project management principles, developing Basis of Estimates and managing live tasks.
- Promote Company Engineering Excellence and the First Time Quality initiative across all engineering functions assigned to the Chinook programme.
- Develop upon a well-established Continuous Improvement culture.
- The post will have direct line management responsibilities; therefore, the candidate should therefore be able to demonstrate experience in personnel career development and performance management and act as Mentor and or Coach to his or her peers.
- Experience with working within a military environment with stakeholders including Type Airworthiness Authority, Head of Engineering, Continuing Airworthiness Manager and other functional senior stakeholders.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a manager in a dynamic and complex technical environment involving large multi-disciplined teams.
- Able to build relationships, provide technical guidance, mentor and motivate others is essential.
- Significant experience operating within the MAA regulatory environment or civil equivalent on AH-64 or other rotary fixed wing platforms is essential.
- A significant leadership background is required with demonstrated experience both leading and developing teams, delivering results in a complex technical environment in support of business and mission critical requirements.
- Significant experience operating within the MAA regulatory environment or civil equivalent on fixed and or rotary platforms is essential.
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline or closely related technical field is essential (significant experience without degree will be considered).
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) Chartered Engineer (CEng) and corporate membership of appropriate professional institution (e.g. IET, RAeS) or commitment to attain IEng / CEng is essential.
Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security Clearance.
Visa Status and Relocation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Relocation benefits are not available. Successful candidates must have existing / ability to obtain legal authorisation to work in the UK for continued employment.
