The Opportunity

Insitu Pacific is seeking a talented System Safety Engineer to join our growing team

The Engineer - Systems Safety will be responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of complex systems throughout their lifecycle by appling systems safety engineering principles to identify, analyse, and mitigate safety risks associated with system design and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document safety requirements for systems and components, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and customer expectations. Define and document safety requirements for systems and components, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and customer expectations.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and other safety analysis techniques.
  • Develop and execute safety verification and validation plans to ensure that safety requirements are met throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, systems engineering, and quality assurance, to integrate safety considerations into the overall system design and development process.
  • Lead and participate in safety reviews, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Safety Design Reviews (SDR), to evaluate system safety performance and compliance.
  • Ensure that all safety engineering activities comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and enterprise policies.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including safety plans, hazard logs, and safety assessment reports.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to communicate safety findings, provide updates, and ensure alignment on safety objectives.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance safety engineering practices and methodologies, driving a culture of safety within the organisation.

Experience/Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, safety engineering, or a related field.
  • 6 or more years of relevant experience in systems safety engineering, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety verification.
  • Proficiency in safety engineering principles and methodologies, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and safety management systems.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and regulations, such as ARP4761, DO-178C, and DO-254.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess safety risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including safety plans and hazard logs.
  • Familiarity with safety analysis tools and software used in the industry.

Desirable

  • Relevant certifications in safety engineering or risk management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Functional Safety Engineer (FSE)).
  • Experience working in the aerospace industry, particularly in safety-critical systems.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements
  • Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
  • You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
