'That was the best call that I've made'

Published Sept. 8, 2022

When Sandra Lankford, an HR business partner supporting Missile and Weapon Systems teams in Huntsville, Alabama, learned about Boeing's elder care benefits, she called in search of help for her father, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

“That was the best call that I’ve made,” Sandra said. “I got a live person. Someone actually answered the phone — there was a bit of a pause, but no digital directory.”

In the United States, eligible employees are reimbursed for up to 20 days of back-up care for children or elders through the Bright Horizons program, be it at a care facility or through an in-home caregiver. When Sandra's younger brother Carl had a stroke soon after her father's diagnosis, she was able to split the 20 days of care between the two men.
