What isGraduateResearcherProgram?

The GRP (GraduateResearcherProgram) is aunique10-12 weekinternship programdesignedspecificallyfor students pursuing their PhD.GRP is a hybrid experience of real-world industry work experience combined with development programming that exposes students to Boeing, its products,servicesand its peopleGRP focuses on deeply connecting students to their teamand Boeingthrough work experience across multiple summerswith thegoalofultimatelyofferinga full-time position at the conclusion of academic studiesif a mutual fit is achieved.  

HowGRPWorks:

GRP host teamspostintern requisitionsaligned with Boeing’s strategic needs, aiming to matchtheir needswith top PhD talent. Once candidates apply and are selected, they receive an offer to spend the following summer working with their host team. The program is designed to give interns meaningful, hands-on experience at Boeing, allowing them to apply their academicexpertisewhile contributing to real-world industry challenges and opportunities.

In addition toindustryworkexposure, students attend GRP programming tofurtherbroadentheir experience andknowledgeofBoeingGRP programmingcomponentsinclude:mentorship in your field of study,weeklyFeatured Speaker Talks, a week-long in-personGRP Summit,participation in anInnovation Challenge,and other opportunities tointeract and build a professional networkwithother GRP students, Boeing team members,andBoeingleadership.

Please note: The work you do at Boeing can berelatedto your area ofstudy, butcannotcontributeor be used inyour PhD thesis.

We are seeking students who will havecompleted theirfirst year of studyin their PhD program by July 2027andare passionate about the aerospace industry and Boeing. GRP students excel at quicklyadapting to their roles, analyzing complex problems, and developing innovative solutions. They thrive in collaborative team environments andpossessexcellent communication skills.Above all, theyare driven to contribute to the success of their team, fellow GRP students, and Boeing.

2027GRP Position:

The Applied Mathematics group at Boeing is the company’s most concentrated community of mathematicians, driving innovation across the enterprise through advanced research, algorithm development, and technical consulting. 

As part of Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI), the team appliescuttingedgemathematical methods—including geometry optimization, computational modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis—to solve complex aerospace challenges and shape future capabilities. The Applied Mathematics team collaboratesacross multidisciplinary engineering domains, translatestheoretical concepts into robust algorithmic implementations, and influencesthe adoption of mathematical tools that enable safer, more efficient, and more advanced aerospace systems. 

The successful candidate will gainhandsonexperience developing novel mathematical solutions, contributing to research proposals, and transitioning technical insights into impactful models, software, anddecisionmakingtools used across Boeing.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Job Related Information /BasicQualifications:

  • Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2027

  • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027

  • Pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Science, Engineering, Data Science, MachineLearningor a closely related field

  • Strong background in statistics, numerical methods, and data analytics;demonstratedability to apply mathematical methods to real-world problems

  • Experience with designing and analyzing experiments or simulations, and with uncertainty quantification and probabilistic modeling

  • Proficiencyin programming for data analysis and scientific computing (e.g., Python, R, C/C++).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with software for scientific computing or simulation (e.g.,numpy/scipy,PyTorch/TensorFlow/ML frameworks, JAX, and/or domain-specific tools) is helpful but notrequired

  • Experience with building andvalidatingpredictive models, simulations, and data-analysis workflows with real-world aerospace datasets

  • Knowledge of uncertainty quantification methods (e.g., Bayesian inference, surrogate modeling, polynomial chaos, Gaussian processes)

  • Experience with high-performance computing, parallel processing, or scalable data pipelines.

  • Familiarity with optimization, decision analytics, and digital twin concepts

  • Experience with one or more of the following: statistics software (R), scientific computing libraries (NumPy/SciPy), and programming in Python or R

  • Exposure to multi-disciplinaryormulti-physicsmodeling is a plus but notrequired

Summary Pay Range: $84,000
