Boeing Global Services (BGS) Supply Chain Engineering is currently looking for an Equipment & Tool Engineer to join their team in Seal Beach, CA.  This person will have the opportunity to work on multiple Boeing and heritage McDonnell Douglas Commercial Airplane models by providing tooling support for spare parts procurement.  The individual will partner with Senior Tool Engineers to develop our tooling strategy to optimize how we store, disposition, and manage Out-of-Production Tooling.  In this role, you will collaborate with multiple other engineering workstreams, with third-party logistics warehouse suppliers, and with our international business partners.  A typical day-in-the-life could include assisting suppliers with tooling related fabrication questions, processing quote backup sheets for tooling, analyzing tools to make scrap/retain decisions, assessing tool quotes for fair and reasonable costs, and/or managing tool data in the PLM.  The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate across multiple functions and prefers working in a fast-paced environment.  This individual must be well organized, adaptable and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Seal Beach, CA facility.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist Internal/external suppliers and customers with tooling related fabrication questions

  • Process quote backup sheets with required tooling and technical data in support of procurement for Out-of-Production product lines

  • Interrogate engineering/tooling drawings and CAD models to understand tool geometry and complexity, with knowledge of the Cartesian coordinate system, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Utilize knowledge of common manufacturing processes as they relate to tooling, including casting, machining, forging, sheet metal fabrication, tube bending, welding, molding, composite layup and assembly to support Supply Chain

  • Utilize understanding of the different part commodities/part build strategies and what tool types are generally used for each commodity

  • Understanding of the need for periodic tool inspections and audits and ability to execute them

  • Articulate technical details relative to fabrication methods and tools required

  • Utilize a basic understanding of Loft Engineering

  • Utilize knowledge of the use of Master Tooling to control aircraft configuration

  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required

  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics

  • 3+ years of experience working in an engineering discipline

  • 3+ years of experience in a tool / equipment engineering or tool manufacturing environment

  • 3+ years of experience in multiple Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or Computer-Aided manufacturing (CAM) applications (e.g. Mastercam, Catia V5, Unigraphics, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working in an Equipment or Tool Engineering role

  • Experience with Boeing and McDonnell Douglas aircraft engineering product structure

  • Experience with REDARS, CATIA, NX, SAP

  • Experience with tool cost estimating or tool dispositioning strategy

  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes as they relate to quick response tooling

  • Experience working in a production environment

  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to collaborate with both the engineering workforce and the mechanics on the factory floor

  • Project management knowledge & strong communication skills

Summary pay range: $111,350 - $150,650
