Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a System Engineer in Colorado Springs, CO.

Boeing’s Phantom Works Space SBMC2 team is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented System Engineer responsible for Configuration Management to support advanced mission systems development in Colorado Springs, CO. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate hardware and software records, managing system configuration, and applying configuration management (CM) best practices across the program lifecycle. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with the four CM pillars (Identification, Control, Status Accounting, and Audit) to preserve the integrity, traceability, and accountability of critical technical assets.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Lead Level SystemEngineers.

Position Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain configuration baselines for hardware and software assets through accurate entry and oversight in Jira
  • Apply systems thinking to ensure cohesive configuration of hardware and software components
  • Own and manage the configuration database, ensuring timely identification and removal of End-of-Life (EOL) assets
  • Oversee the configuration control process for all work products, including software versions and hardware changes
  • Support Change Control Boards and implement structured approval processes for modifications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of approved configuration changes
  • Assist in automating database updates to ensure real-time status accuracy and reduce manual entry errors
  • Track configuration changes and maintain traceability across the system lifecycle.
  • Ensure audit readiness through regular reviews and data integrity checks.
  • Respond to internal audits and customer inquiries with validated and traceable documentation
  • Continuously validate system records for compliance with Boeing and customer standards

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar CM tracking platforms
  • Experience managing system configurations and version control in technical environments
  • Familiarity with hardware and software components within hosting System environments.
  • Ability to apply systems thinking to integrated hardware/software environments

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • 9+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Experience automating configuration database updates
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong understanding of software terminology, versioning, and release processes

Typical Education & Experience

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range (Experienced or Mid-Level, Level 3): $97,750 - $132,250

Summary pay range (Lead, Level 4): $119,850 - $162,150
